A SEA OF OPPORTUNITY

February 26th, 2019

As sales of adjustables continue booming, rest assured — there’s a sea of opportunity for future growth.

That’s just one of the many encouraging outtakes to surface from the first-ever CEO Bedding Summit held at Las Vegas Market (LVM) 2019.

Sponsored by LOGICATA, the Summit gathered industry thought leaders together including Johannes Gradwohl, CEO of LOGICDATA, Jay Thompson, president of Leggett & Platt Adjustable Bed Group; Martin Rawls-Meehan, founder and CEO of Reverie, and Phil Sherman, president of Customatic, to discuss trends within the adjustables category. The panelists also shared insights for providing greater value and impact to everyone within the chain of purchase — from wholesale, retailer and buyer to the end user.

Moderated by Furniture Today’s David Perry, several key points emerged from the Summit, such as the need to educate the public on the merits of an adjustable base, and how the base is the foundation of an overall improved sleep experience – not an after-thought. Additionally, public perception of adjustable bases may be outdated; limited to what an individual may have seen or experienced in a hospital or medical setting.

“Furniture sales and marketing teams have helped shift the focus of adjustable beds to become more of a luxury lifestyle product versus a medical product for those in need,” explained Gradwohl.  “Consumers want to be able to read, watch TV, browse the internet, or work in their bed more comfortably.”

Customization Options

Expanding the value of an adjustable base to the home is a new and exciting concept, and customization options abound to make the sleep experience an extraordinary combination of personal comfort and convenience.

“Consumers prefer products that are tailored to their needs without having to pay extra for features they don’t want, and this is a great way for retailers to add value to the customers,” said Gradwohl.

Perry said it best when he noted the “sea of opportunity” ahead of the fast-growing, adjustables category, noting the 74.8% increase in units in the first nine months of 2018, according to the Bedding Market Quarterly issued by the International Sleep Products Assocation.

LOGICDATA is proud to offer innovative solutions for all customer segments , including its new SILVERlite, an extraordinary adjustable base option for eCommerce that’s entirely UPS shippable with the smallest packaging option available on the market (75% smaller than other packages).

Gradwohl also believes retailers can focus on showing various levels of quality.

“Keep educating the customer,” he said. “End the race to the bottom on your own; stop searching for the lowest wholesale prices, stop searching for the minimum acceptable product, stop searching for any cent in extra margin.  Instead, focus on quality, on reliability, on added value to the customer.  If your customer is fascinated by a product, price is not the final deal-breaker anymore.

World Sleep Day

The Summit is one of many industry and consumer conversations that continue to elevate overall awareness of a quality sleep experience. Case in point – in just a few days, global attention will focus on World Sleep Day, an annual event intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving.

Set for March 15, 2019, World Sleep Day is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of World Sleep Society and aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders.

When it comes to the future of adjustables, our industry is “rising and shining,” and LOGICDATA couldn’t be more excited to lead the way.
