Always in Motion: Our Journey to
Mechatronic Leadership

March 27th, 2024

Today, LOGICDATA is a brand that stands for quality, reliability, and innovation. Over almost three decades in our industry, we’ve built a worldwide reputation for our excellent mechatronic products, our skilled, knowledgeable team, and a production network that ensures ultimate satisfaction for our global customer base. However, when our journey began almost thirty years ago, the landscape on the market for mechatronic technology looked very different.

So, how did we get here? In this post, we’ll look back on the evolution of LOGICDATA, tracking our growth from local innovator to global powerhouse, and explaining how the continual expansion of our horizons – and our competences – can help us shape the future of mechatronic technology across various industries for many years to come.

Beginnings: Electronic and Software Development

LOGICDATA was founded in 1994: yet the future for this electronic and software development startup was far from certain at the time. Initially, the company operated as a contract developer, with our first project involving the creation of an infrared remote control for an early adjustable bed system.

However, following these early projects, and by increasingly specializing in hardware and software control systems with a handful of employees in the early 2000s, LOGICDATA swiftly transitioned from a service provider to a supplier of mechatronic solutions. Eventually, we could offer a range of serial products and, as a result, embark on the path to growth.

Decades later, the legacy of our origins in electronic and software development continues to shape our identity. In fact, LOGICDATA still commits thousands of hours to research and development annually, a testament to our enduring dedication to innovation.

Thinking Outside the Box: Control Units and Accessories

Having transitioned from a contract developer to a mechatronic solution provider, LOGICDATA began to capitalize on the rapidly growing market for height-adjustable tables in the early 2000s. By developing control units and accessories tailored to this niche, we cemented relationships with partners that would stay with us for years to come.

The expansion into serial production not only broadened LOGICDATA’s product portfolio but also helped us to build essential competencies that would open new commercial avenues. Through collaborations with various partners such as contract manufacturers, and by hiring skilled and experienced personnel, we could master the intricacies of industrialization: ensuring seamless product releases and continuous improvements.

Today, these competencies remain ingrained in the fabric of our company – excellence is simply the way that LOGICDATA works. Our team’s exceptional abilities in industrialization and product development allow us to bring high-quality products to market while consistently refining and enhancing the technology that drives them.

Driving Forward: Motors and Inline Drives

While customers initially purchased control units from LOGICDATA and sourced drives externally, we realized that by developing motors and inline drives in-house, we could provide a more refined, more cohesive product offering to our customers. Rather than limiting partners with off-the-shelf motors for their applications, our optimized solutions would be tailored to their specific needs.

Following intense development efforts – incorporating actuator design, gearbox development, and the creation of a spindle system – the result was the birth of our first.

The expansion into mechanical and mechatronic engineering was a defining step in our history. Today, the LOGICDATA team is renowned for its ability to refine motor designs and optimize performance. Likewise, we continue to build on our foundations in mechatronic development, creating new and patented motor technology every year. This is made possible by the investment of significant development hours into R&D: something we feel illustrates LOGICDATA’s commitment to mechatronic engineering.

However, we don’t just design drives nowadays: we make them too. With our motor production facility in Hungary, LOGICDATA can offer customers the best possible quality and value by keeping manufacturing processes like motor winding and drive assembly in-house.

Building the Framework: Legs and Frames

As LOGICDATA evolved, so too did the nature of our customer base. In addition to system partners, we began to work closely with large-scale furniture retailers and OEMs: a development that necessitated a broader product portfolio.

While the strong focus on developing first-class mechatronic components has been maintained, the past five years has seen a significant portfolio expansion into complete systems and responsibility for more parts of the final product. For the home and office furnishings industry, this meant the creation of legs and frames for mechatronic products.

This strategic shift required the development of competencies in metalwork: at our production location in the Czech Republic, a considerable tonnage of metal is processed annually. In the long term, our know-how in the construction of robust columns, as well as our proficiency in building sturdy and reliable frameworks for mechatronic systems, make us a more attractive proposition on the market.

Putting It All Together: Integrated Systems

Driven by customer demand for comprehensive solutions, we doubled down on the development of complete systems: beginning with the integration of our controls into beds, later expanding to encompass entire table systems too. In a short time, our products became known on the market for their simplicity and modularity: aspects that helped partners create premium solutions using our technology.

The close cooperation with partners to create complete mechatronic systems has led to the development of an integration-led mindset throughout the company. We are proud of our ability to seamlessly merge components into cohesive, cutting-edge systems. From beds to tables and beyond, LOGICDATA continues to redefine the boundaries of mechatronic innovation.

Looking Forward: A Vision for Excellence

At LOGICDATA, we never stop thinking about the future, although we’re very proud of the achievements in our past. Throughout the story, you can see many constants: a fierce commitment to innovation and excellence, in addition to a keen eye for future trends.

This leads us to the present day. As a mature, experienced team, we envision a world in which our mechatronic technology plays a key role in the development of even more market segments, revolutionizing industries in new and exciting ways. To remain successful, we will need to continue our continuous development of our competencies, both within LOGICDATA and as part of the global JIECANG network: deepening our expertise in mechatronics and using it to drive new possibilities for our customers.

Through strategic partnerships and investment in research and development, we can create solutions that address evolving customer needs. Just like we have done so many times in the past, together we will shape a tomorrow where mechatronic innovation empowers industries and helps our customers to achieve their goals.
